Since the beginning of 2024, solar and wind power plants (WPPs) in Uzbekistan have generated 4 billion kWh of electricity, Kun.uz reports, citing the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.
"As of today (October 20), the amount of electricity produced by all solar and win power plants in our country since the start of the year has reached 4 billion kWh," the Ministry of Energy stated.
Of this total, 3.5 billion kWh were generated by solar power plants and 506.4 million kWh by wind farms.
As a result, 1.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas were saved, and 1.6 million tons of harmful emissions into the atmosphere were prevented.
The ministry noted that this volume of electricity equals the 10-month social consumption norm for 2 million households or the annual norm for 1.6 million households.
Uzbekistan aims to increase the share of "green" energy production to 40% of the total by 2030. This will allow for annual savings of 25 billion cubic meters of natural gas and a reduction in harmful emissions by 34 million tons.
As of early 2024, the share of wind and solar power plants in the total energy mix was nearly 10%.
In February of this year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated that the potential of wind power plants in Uzbekistan exceeds the country's electricity needs by 10 to 12 times.
It was also predicted that by the end of 2024, green energy production would reach 13 billion kWh, accounting for 15% of the country's energy balance.
Currently, Uzbekistan operates nine solar photovoltaic plants with a total capacity of 2.7 GW and one wind farm.
