The growth of Russian investments in Uzbekistan by 2.1 times over the past six years has been noted. This follows from the report of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) "Monitoring of Mutual Investments" for 2022, Sputnik reports.

Also, the investments received by Uzbekistan from the CIS countries as a whole almost doubled. In the first half of 2020, the share of Uzbekistan in the total volume of mutual investments was 20.1%, while in 2016 this figure was 11.7%.

EDB experts attribute this growth to the improvement of the investment climate and the development of the economy of Uzbekistan.

The main investor in the CIS is Russia - its share of direct investment this year amounted to 79.2%. Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are in the second and third places - their share is 9.5% and 8.4% respectively.

Basically, the Commonwealth countries invested in Uzbekistan in the extraction of oil and natural gas, metal ores, as well as the operation of land and pipeline transport.

Russia remains Uzbekistan's main investment partner. According to the State Committee on Statistics of Uzbekistan, the Russian Federation accounts for more than 20% of the total amount of capital investments in the republic.

In January-September 2022, the total investment amounted to 190 trillion soums. Of these, foreign investments and loans account for 72 trillion soums.

The leader in terms of foreign investment is Russia - it accounts for 21% of the total. China is in second place - 19.9%, Turkey is in third - 10.4%.

Russia is traditionally one of the largest investors in the economy of Uzbekistan. The total volume of investments from Russia to the republic during the entire period of cooperation is more than $10 billion. For many years, such major Russian players as LUKOIL, Gazprom, Tatneft, Zarubezhneft, KAMAZ, "Beeline" and others have been present in the country.

Last year, trade between the countries grew to $7.5 billion, and since the beginning of this year, trade has increased by 40%, and the number of joint ventures has reached 2,565.
