The share of bilateral loans in Kyrgyzstan's external debt decreased from 48.9% to 45%, amounting to $2,093.6 million. This information is provided by the Ministry of Finance, as reported by Akchabar.

Among the major creditor countries is China, to which Kyrgyzstan owes $1,708.2 million. Thus, its share in 2023 was 36.7%.

"The debt to China noticeably dominates the structure of the external debt. However, its share is below the target indicator for the maximum amount of debt to one creditor. The current debt management strategy sets it at 45%," writes the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan.

Japan is the next highest borrowing country for Kyrgyzstan. However, Kyrgyzstan owes Japan only 3.4% of the total national debt, or $159.5 million.

It is worth noting that against the backdrop of the decrease in the structure of external debt of bilateral loans, there is an increase in the share of external multilateral loans, up to 55% in 2023.
