Kyrgyzstan and Japan have signed investment agreements for two projects in Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan announced.

As per the agreement signed by Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Energy, Talaibek Ibraev, and the president of the Japanese company MurooSystems Corporation, Pan Jong-sin, the construction of two small hydroelectric power stations (HPP) on the Chong-Kemin River in the Chuy region, in the north of the country, will begin with a total capacity of 24-25 MW.

Additionally, the agreement includes the construction of a photovoltaic solar power plant with a capacity of up to 100 MW in the Batken region in the south of the country.

The Japanese company has pledged to invest up to $100 million in the projects for the construction of the small HPPs and the solar power plant.

Kyrgyzstan currently operates 24 small HPP systems with a total capacity of 66.5 megawatt-hours, including nine hydroelectric plants managed by "Chakan HPP."

In 2024, the President of Kyrgyzstan inaugurated the small HPP "Kok-Art" and the "Kainama" hydroelectric power station (HPP) in the Jalal-Abad region, as well as the "Bala-Saruu" HPP in Talas.
