President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov and President of Tajikistan Emamoli Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the intermediate results of negotiations on the border after a bilateral meeting in Cholpon-Ata, the press service of the president of Kyrgyzstan reported.
At the talks, the presidents of the two countries paid special attention to the issue of delimitation and demarcation of the Tajik-Kyrgyz state border.
The presidents were satisfied with the results achieved so far in agreeing on the project line of the state border between the two countries with a length of about 626 km, 102 km of which have been described over the past 1.5 years. At the same time, they advocated the productive continuation of negotiations and the search for mutually acceptable solutions based on mutual respect and trust.
The total length of the joint border is 970 km. Negotiations are under way on the division of the disputed valley sections of the border.
The heads of state also discussed the state and prospects of Tajik-Kyrgyz relations in the political, trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres, exchanged views on issues of regional and international agendas.
Reaffirming the importance of maintaining the ties of friendship and good neighborliness between the two countries, the heads of state spoke in favor of resolving all emerging issues exclusively by political and diplomatic means.
President Rahmon arrived in Cholpon-Ata to participate in the second Central Asia - European Union summit, which began work at the residence of the President of Kyrgyzstan in Cholpon-Ata. The presidents of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as well as the deputy prime minister of Turkmenistan, take part in its work. The European Union is represented at the summit by President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
