European Commissioner for International Partnerships Josef Síkela and his delegation visited the Rogun Hydropower Plant, one of Tajikistan's largest energy infrastructure projects, Khovar reports.

According to Síkela, the Rogun HPP is a grand project, which he described as "the greatest construction site" he has ever encountered.

"I have seen a lot in my life, but this is truly the largest construction site that has impressed me," he noted. The Commissioner emphasized that the Rogun HPP project is of great significance both for Tajikistan and for the entire region.

Síkela also mentioned that this is not his first visit to Tajikistan. "I was in Tajikistan two years ago when I served as Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic. I am amazed at the speed of changes in the country. For example, I see that all taxis in the capital are electric vehicles, which is an important contribution to sustainable development," he said.

The EU Commissioner stressed that the construction of the Rogun HPP will play a key role in ensuring the region's energy security and will help Tajikistan become a major exporter of clean energy.

"This project will double Tajikistan's electricity production and allow the country to become a leading player in clean energy production and exports," he noted.

Josef Síkela also praised Tajikistan’s focus on green energy, calling it an important step toward a sustainable future.

"I am extremely pleased that Tajikistan takes sustainability issues very seriously. I mainly mentioned public transport and electric vehicles in the capital. This is a major contribution and also a prerequisite, as under our Global Gateway strategy, we can provide financial support only if sustainability is ensured. We invest only in sustainable projects that help us combat climate change. And I am extremely pleased that Tajikistan chooses our technologies, as they are essentially the most advanced in terms of sustainability," he added.

The European Union supports the Rogun HPP project, highlighting its importance for the region’s environmental and energy sustainability. "European companies are actively involved in this project, and after visiting the Rogun HPP, we will use the experience gained to support European companies' participation in developing projects abroad," Síkela concluded.
