The International Road Transport Union (IRU) has announced the launch of an innovative logistics route connecting Kashgar (Kashi) in China with Kabul in Afghanistan, reports Sputnik-Afghanistan.
The first truck, sent from the TIR center in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China, successfully completed its journey through Pakistan and reached the Afghan capital.
The Afghan leadership expressed interest in expanding economic ties with all neighboring states. The country aims to become a key transit hub by developing both land and air routes.
Abdul Latif Nazari, Deputy Minister of Economy of Afghanistan, emphasized: "We are focused on developing transport corridors with neighboring countries, including China. This will facilitate the export of our goods and the import of products from these countries into Afghanistan."
China is one of Afghanistan's leading economic partners. Currently, several Chinese companies are actively operating in the Afghan market, and the annual trade turnover between the two countries reaches an impressive $1.3 billion.
The opening of the new route could act as a catalyst for further strengthening economic ties between China and Afghanistan, as well as promote Afghanistan's integration into regional trade networks.
This event highlights Afghanistan's growing role as a potential logistics hub in Central Asia, despite the complex political situation in the country.
