The Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan has made a statement regarding the inclusion of Defense Engineering in the US sanctions list, Zakon.kz reports.
Before that, it became known that the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury (OFAC) imposed sanctions against the Defense Engineering Limited Liability Partnership, registered in Kazakhstan. She is suspected of circumventing sanctions in arms deals between Russia and North Korea.
"Defence Engineering has indeed been included in the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on the SDN sanctions list. The company is registered in Astana. It is currently inactive," according to a statement posted on the Telegram channel of the Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan on August 17, 2023.
According to the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan, the company's activities have been suspended since February 14, 2021.
According to the information of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development of Kazakhstan, the specified enterprise was not issued licenses, permits for the movement of specific goods.
"We associate the inclusion of the company in the sanctions list with the fact that its owner Ashot Mkrtychev, who is not a resident of Kazakhstan, is under US sanctions. The inclusion of the company in the sanctions list is of a technical nature. This person left the territory of Kazakhstan on March 7, 2020, after which his entry into the country is not In addition to Defense Engineering, two of its companies registered in other jurisdictions were also sanctioned," the press service of the Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan said.
