The authorities of Kazakhstan intend to cancel the law "On the First President". The work on putting the law "On Elbasy" (Leader of the Nation) into oblivion is at its final stage, said Minister of Justice of the Republic Kanat Musin, zakon.kz reports.

According to him, before starting work on the loss of the law "On Elbasy", it is necessary to resolve the issue in a comprehensive manner, work with the entire base, and not just one law.

The head of the Ministry of Justice of Kazakhstan spoke on the sidelines of the Kazakh Senate on August 16, 2022, that the constitutional law on the powers of Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev would be put on hold.

Later, a deputy of the lower house of the parliament of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Sairov, said that the process of bringing legislative acts in line with the constitution within the framework of the changes made continues. In this regard, the law "On Elbasy", according to him, was to be put on the loss until the end of 2022.

Nazarbayev voluntarily stepped down as President of Kazakhstan in March 2019. At the same time, he nominated the President of the country, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who was then elected head of state by popular vote in June 2019.

Relations between Nazarbayev and Tokayev seriously diverged after the January mass protests. The closest associates of Nazarbayev, who retained their positions in power in Kazakhstan under the new President, were recognized as the organizers of popular unrest throughout Kazakhstan.

One of Nazarbayev's closest associates, the former head of the KNB, Karim Masimov, was arrested and presented as the main participant in the rebellion. He is awaiting trial and demands that Nazarbayev be called to trial as a witness.

As a result of irreconcilable differences, the courses of the Akorda - the Administration of the President of Kazakhstan, and the Library - the residence of Nazarbayev in Astana, strongly diverged, and the discontent of the people is forcing the current Government of Kazakhstan to disavow all the privileges of the ex-president Nazarbayev.
