The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is able to offer its "peace formula" against the backdrop of growing geopolitical tensions, Kazakhstan's Permanent Representative to the SCO Secretariat Nurlan Akkoshkarov said, RIA Novosti reports.
"We are witnessing an unprecedented increase in geopolitical tensions, intensification of trade and sanctions wars, and many other modern challenges. We cannot allow a geopolitical rift between East and West. In this regard, we are confident that the Shanghai Organization is able to offer its" peace formula ", said Akkoshkarov.
Therefore, within the framework of its chairmanship, Kazakhstan will present an initiative "On world unity for a just peace and harmony," he said.
Chairmanship in the SCO for the coming period passed to Kazakhstan. The next meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State will be held in 2024 in Kazakhstan under the chairmanship of the head of this state, it was said in the published New Delhi declaration of the Council of Heads of State of the organization, which took place on July 4, 2023.
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during his speech at the online SCO summit, said that Kazakhstan, as part of its chairmanship in the Organization, will present a peace plan between East and West.
The SCO is an international organization founded in 2001. It includes India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Iran. Observer countries - Afghanistan, Belarus, Mongolia, partner countries - Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, UAE, Turkey and Sri Lanka.
At the Samarkand summit in September 2022, a document was adopted on the start of the procedure for admitting Belarus to the SCO membership.
