Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov announced the allocation of 160 billion tenge ($308 million) for the development of the country's water supply system, the press service of the government of Kazakhstan reports.
Financing is carried out through the Special State Fund at the expense of assets returned to the republic.
The total investment in water infrastructure will amount to 284.3 billion tenge ($553 million). The funds are distributed between the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Water Resources for the implementation of 230 infrastructure projects.
The government noted the success of the digitalization of the industry: the introduction of the automated AGIS system made it possible to reduce water losses by 40% in seven regions of the country.
"Previously, accounting was done manually, which led to high losses and accidents. With the introduction of AGIS, the situation has changed," the Cabinet explained.
The new system includes a billing platform, online monitoring and automatic control tools, which helped reduce accidents by 30-50%, reduce routine operations by 30% and increase the service life of equipment by 15-30%.
Additionally, the Connected Home system is being introduced with smart sensors that automatically shut off water in case of leaks and send notifications to owners. These measures will minimize losses and improve the efficiency of water distribution throughout the country.
