The Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliev held a meeting with his colleague, the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov. The parties discussed a number of issues related to cooperation between countries in the field of energy, the transit of Kazakh oil, and the implementation of large-scale renewable energy projects, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reported.

The meeting took place following the results of the 20th meeting of the joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In November 2022, an agreement was signed between the KazMunayGas (KMG) and SOCAR companies on the transit of oil along the Aktau-Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan route. At the end of 2023, oil shipments from the port of Aktau amounted to 1,057 thousand tons in the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan direction. For 2024, it is planned to supply Kazakh oil through the BTC in the amount of 1.5 million tons per year.

“Our national companies have been tasked with increasing the volume of oil supplies, taking into account the growth in production in Kazakhstan. In this regard, we plan to increase the volume of supplies of Kazakh oil,” A. Satkaliev noted during the meeting.

The heads of the Ministry of Energy also discussed upcoming work on the implementation of a project aimed at connecting the energy systems of the Caucasus region and Central Asia by laying a deep-sea cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea.
