Tajikistan and Kazakhstan recently agreed on a joint program for the development of uranium ores in Tajikistan. However, they may need experienced developers of uranium deposits, experts said at the time.

Russia could participate in the Kazakhstan-Tajikistan project for uranium extraction and processing, said Boris Marcinkevich, Editor-in-Chief of "Geoenergetics," reports "Sputnik Near Abroad."

"It is possible that if development projects emerge, the design may also have to be done by specialists from Russia. Kazakhstan has vast experience in uranium mining, but in the steppe areas. In the mountains, it’s a completely different challenge," Marcinkevich said.

The expert noted that the cooperation between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan in uranium extraction and processing is natural. According to him, Tajikistan holds 14% of the world’s uranium reserves, while Kazakhstan holds 13%.

Marcinkevich emphasized that uranium mining in Tajikistan has not been developed since the 1990s. However, given the current rise in uranium prices, the development of new deposits has become very profitable. He also recalled that "Rosatom" and "TadjRedMet" have a positive history of cooperation, as the Russian corporation neutralized uranium mines in the republic.
