More than 100 Turkmen companies registered in Kazakhstan make a significant contribution to bilateral cooperation, stated the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, following talks with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov on May 27 in Astana, Orient.tm reports.

"I invited our Turkmen brothers to join the Islamic Organization for Food Security. Our investment cooperation is also actively developing. More than 100 Turkmen companies registered in the country make a significant contribution to bilateral cooperation. In turn, we are ready to invest in the economy of Turkmenistan. It is important to sign an agreement on the promotion and mutual protection of investments," Kazinform quotes Murat Nurtleu as saying.

The head of Kazakhstan's foreign ministry noted that special attention is being paid to the further active development of transit-transport cooperation, another strong pillar of our relations.

"Astana and Ashgabat are important and effective members of the transcontinental cargo transportation system. We believe that the development of routes from Asia to Europe and Asia to the Middle East through our two countries will strengthen our roles in the global community. We have agreed to comprehensively develop the potential of the 'Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran' railway, which has great capabilities. Thanks to joint efforts, the volume of railway transport between our countries increased by 20% last year, reaching 1.3 million tons.

Kazakhstan supports Turkmenistan's accession to the international transport corridor 'North-South.' We have agreed to significantly increase cargo transportation volumes between the ports of Aktau and Turkmenbashi. It is noteworthy that in the past three years, cargo turnover in this direction has grown by 50%," added Murat Nurtleu.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan emphasized that the connection of highways not only supports the economies of border regions but also significantly increases overall cargo transportation.

For reference: The Port of Aktau is part of the group of companies of JSC "NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" and participates in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).
