The construction of the 130-kilometer Zhetygen - Kazybek-bek railway, bypassing Almaty to speed up the delivery of transit goods from China to Europe, began in the south of Kazakhstan. Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov took part in the ceremony, TASS reports.

According to him, now cargo arriving at the Almaty railway junction is delayed by 1.5-2 days.
In total, 130 km of railway tracks will be laid, three stations and 13 bridges will be built, the press service noted. According to her, to expand the transit of goods from China, second tracks are being built in Kazakhstan on the Dostyk-Moyynty section. In the near future, it is planned to begin laying the Darbaza - Maktaaral and Bakhty - Ayagoz railway lines with access to the third international junction with the China.
According to authorities, rail freight transport between Kazakhstan and China exceeded 23 million tons in 2022, reaching a new historical high. Since the beginning of 2023, this figure has increased by another 22%.
