Kazakhstan acts as a continental bridge along the East-West and North-South transport corridors, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Roman Vasilenko, Ritneurasia reports.

“Our geographic location has allowed us to serve as a trade and diplomatic bridge between East and West.

Kazakhstan, in collaboration with our neighbors in Central Asia and beyond, as well as partners such as the EU, is capitalizing on our geographic location and geo-economic potential to improve onshore connections between Asia and Europe.

Kazakhstan and Central Asia have clear advantages for connecting distant markets and serving as a continental bridge along East-West and North-South transport lines,” Vasilenko said.

According to him, approximately 80% of land cargo transportation between Europe and Asia passes through Kazakhstan.

“Already, thanks to collective action, traffic along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, or Middle Corridor, has tripled in the last two years and is expected to continue to increase over the next five decades,” he added.

To date, 13 international transport corridors have been formed and operate in Kazakhstan, including 5 railway and 8 road.

In addition, over the past 10 years, about $30 billion has been invested in the transport and logistics infrastructure of Kazakhstan.

Moreover, at least 40 billion euros will be needed over the next five years to implement major infrastructure projects in the transport sector in Kazakhstan.

Recently it became known that an international conference called “The Road to Tien Shan” will soon be held in Dushanbe, which will bring together the heads of transport departments of countries in the region and beyond and international foreign organizations.

Uzbekistan is seen as a key player in expanding trade and connectivity between Asia and Europe through the Trans-China and Middle Corridors.
