Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan are discussing the technical capabilities of gas transportation systems, but there was no talk of creating a gas union, Kazakh Energy Minister Bolat Akchulakov said, RIA Novosti reported.
"In fact, the issue of building a gas union was not discussed. All discussions were in the format of bilateral cooperation, say, Kazakhstan with Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The union was not discussed in a trilateral format, we are discussing the technical capabilities of our systems - gas transportation and so on," he told reporters on the sidelines of an expanded government meeting.
The minister added that the issues of cooperation in the gas sector require the coordination of all three parties. "These are working issues, so there was absolutely no talk about creating some kind of union," he added.
The issue of creating a gas union between Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan was first raised at a meeting between the President of Kazakhstan and the President of Russia in Moscow at the end of November 2022.
