Kazakhstan has successfully completed the ICAO USAP-CMA international aviation safety audit, with mission lead expert Vain Kallum delivering a preliminary report that praises the country’s substantial progress since its 2017 assessment, according to Forbes.kz.
ICAO auditors highlighted marked improvements across five core areas:
- Alignment of national legislation with ICAO standards;
- Effectiveness of state oversight;
- Compliance by airlines and airports;
- Personnel training and certification;
- Streamlining of international flight formalities.
Conducted from September 2 to 14, the audit focused on international airports in Astana and Almaty, as well as major Kazakh carriers. The team of four international experts evaluated the country’s aviation security framework against global benchmarks.
“This is the result of tremendous effort. Even at this preliminary stage, it’s clear Kazakhstan ranks highly on the global aviation safety scale,” said Kallum, commending the coordinated work of the Civil Aviation Committee, airport authorities, and airlines.
Final audit results will be released by November 15, 2025. Successful implementation of recommendations will pave the way for expanded international routes — including potential direct flights to New York — reinforcing Kazakhstan’s position as a key aviation hub in Central Asia.
