Kazakhstan fears water shortages in near future

Kazakhstan expects a significant increase in population, livestock and industrial production in the coming years, which will lead to an increase in water intake for various needs.

Meanwhile, the country's water management balance for the period up to 2029 shows a reduction in river flow from 102.3 to 99.4 km³, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan specified.

In order to reduce the severity of the problem, the authorities are taking a number of measures, primarily for the more economical use of available water resources. In particular, by 2029 it is planned to reduce water losses in agriculture from 20% to 15%.

Attention to the agricultural sector of Kazakhstan is not accidental. The consumption of drinking and domestic water takes only 4% of the total water resources, while in agriculture it is 63%. At the same time, up to half of the volume of water is lost during its transportation - delivery to the fields for irrigation.
