Kazakhstan has begun implementing major infrastructure projects in aviation, the Kazakh government’s press service reports.
In 2025, new airports will be built in the resort areas of Katon-Karagay, Zaisan, and Kendirli. Currently, land plots are being registered, and project designs are in development, the statement says.
Initially, artificial runways (ARs) of 2,200 meters will be constructed to accommodate Q400, ATR 42/72, and CRJ200 aircraft. These airliners will enable direct flights from Astana and Almaty to the tourist destinations in the region.
In addition, by 2030, Kazakhstan plans to implement a large-scale project to improve transport infrastructure. The government has announced plans to construct 4,700 km of new roads, including 3,700 km of first-category highways. The total funding allocated for these projects exceeds 9 trillion tenge ($17 billion).
Railway modernization is also planned. In 2025, Kazakhstan will purchase 225 new railcars and complete the Dostyk–Moyynty railway project, which will increase railway capacity fivefold, ensuring smooth operation of 12 to 60 train pairs.
At Aktau Port, construction of a container hub has begun, significantly boosting its capacity.
“This will strengthen Kazakhstan’s position in global logistics, increase container shipments via the Trans-Caspian Route through Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, and redirect some China-Europe transit cargo. Additionally, dredging work is planned at the port to enhance its terminal capacity, making it more efficient for container transport,” the statement reads.
