Kazakhstan intends to increase trade with Kyrgyzstan

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Joomart Tokayev stressed the importance of developing relations between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan at a meeting with Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Nurlanbek Shakiev in Astana, Sputnik reports.

He stressed the importance of deepening inter-parliamentary ties between the two countries. According to him, Kyrgyzstan is a good neighbor for Kazakhstan, a fraternal state and a strategic partner.

Tokayev noted that today Kazakh-Kyrgyz relations are developing dynamically. This is facilitated by interaction at the intergovernmental and inter-parliamentary levels.

Bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two countries is increasing every year. Both countries plan to increase the trade turnover to $2 billion, the President of Kazakhstan noted.

Tokayev noted that today Kazakh-Kyrgyz relations are developing dynamically. This is facilitated by interaction at the intergovernmental and inter-parliamentary levels.

He expressed confidence that the agreements reached would give an important impetus to many areas of multifaceted cooperation between the countries. Tokayev stressed that Kazakhstan is firmly committed to the course for the comprehensive development of allied relations with fraternal Kyrgyzstan.

Shakiev thanked him for the meeting and Kazakh hospitality, and conveyed warm greetings on behalf of President Sadyr Zhaparov.

According to the speaker, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are the closest countries in all respects, and comprehensive cooperation based on mutual understanding and support is constantly deepening. Shakiyev expressed support for the ongoing reforms in Kazakhstan.

During the meeting, issues of further development of cultural and humanitarian ties between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan were also discussed.
