The authorities of Kazakhstan have introduced a temporary ban on the import of wheat into the country by road. The relevant document has already been signed, published and entered into force, Asia-today.news reports.

The order On the introduction of a ban on the import of wheat into the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan by road was signed by Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Yerbol Karashukeev.

According to the order, the ban is introduced for six months. From now on, it is forbidden to import grain crops into the territory of Kazakhstan by road transport both from the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and from third countries.

The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan expalined that the decision to ban was introduced due to the fact that the domestic market of the country has been suffering in recent years due to the illegal import of wheat. Volumes of gray imports reach 1.5-2 million tons per year.

The main exporter of wheat to Kazakhstan is Russia, which in 2022 harvested a record grain crop, including wheat.
