In Kazakhstan, Samruk-Energo JSC, in partnership with China’s Energy China, has begun construction of a 300 MW solar power plant equipped with an energy storage system in the Turkestan Region, Zakon.kg reports.

The project will become one of the largest solar generation facilities in the country and is aimed at strengthening the reliability of power supply in Kazakhstan’s southern regions.

As part of a ceremonial event at the construction site, a time capsule was laid to mark the official launch of the project. The ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Kazyna JSC Nurlan Zhakupov, senior representatives of Energy China, Chinese Ambassador to Kazakhstan Han Chunlin, as well as officials from the Turkestan regional administration.

The formal start of construction was given by Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Energo JSC Kairat Maksutov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of China Energy Overseas Investment Company Lin Xiao Dan, and Akim of the Turkestan Region Nuralhan Kusherov.

The project is being implemented as part of Samruk-Energo’s strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio and modernize the national power sector. The plant will use next-generation photovoltaic panels with solar tracking systems, as well as advanced energy storage technologies designed to ensure more stable power generation and efficient integration into the national grid.

The construction of the solar power plant is expected to create new jobs, attract investment to the region, and serve as an additional driver for infrastructure development. Once commissioned, the facility will help strengthen the energy balance of the southern regions and improve the reliability of electricity supply during peak demand periods.

According to Kairat Maksutov, the project represents an important step in implementing the company’s long-term strategy for transitioning to low-carbon power generation. He emphasized that for Samruk-Energo, the construction of the solar power plant is not only an investment project, but also a contribution to the sustainable development of Kazakhstan’s energy system.
