Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov and Iranian Minister of Agriculture Seyyed Javad Sadati Nejad held talks in Astana, Zakon.kz reports.

"Especially promising is the increase in the turnover of agricultural products, whose share in mutual trade is almost 80%. Our countries have the opportunity to increase the turnover of agricultural products up to $1 billion," Alikhan Smailov said at the talks.

Seyed Javad Sadati Nejad noted the importance of further development of the railway network and maritime infrastructure to increase the volume of trade and cargo transportation, and also announced Iran's readiness to expand the supply of citrus products to Kazakhstan.

In June 2022, during the visit of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Islamic Republic of Iran, the ministers of agriculture of the two states signed a memorandum on the supply of grain crops to Iran in the amount of 1 million tons.
