Kazakhstan plays a key role in shaping the practical agenda of the “Central Asia–Russia” dialogue, said Daria Saprynskaya, a researcher at the Laboratory for Contemporary Studies of Central Asia and the Caucasus at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Kazinform reports.
“The pragmatic and realistic approach of President Tokayev helps make the ‘CA + Russia’ dialogue more practice-oriented and move beyond purely symbolic gestures,” the expert noted, commenting on the outcomes of the summit in Dushanbe.
She emphasized that the systemic approach promoted by Kazakhstan under Tokayev’s leadership is positively received in Russia and across Central Asia.
The expert highlighted several concrete initiatives proposed by the Kazakh leader, including the creation of a joint agricultural cluster to produce high value-added goods, the establishment of a Regional Competence Council in the nuclear fuel cycle, and the formation of an International Organization for the Russian Language.
Saprynskaya noted that Kazakhstan and Russia are already implementing 100 joint projects worth $21 billion, with 33 more projects in preparation — aligning with the goals of industrial integration within the EAEU. According to her, President Tokayev’s focus on practical problem-solving is particularly relevant today, as Kazakhstan’s territory hosts 11 international transport corridors that form the infrastructural backbone of the entire cooperation format.
