Kazakhstan prepares for upcoming V World Nomad Games

Kazakhstan will utilize the existing sports facilities in the capital city for the hosting of the 5th World Nomad Games, scheduled for September 2024, and does not plan to construct additional venues, according to participants in a meeting of the Organizing Committee focused on the readiness of sports facilities in Astana.

However, as part of the preparations for this international event, local stadiums will be renovated and the racecourse will be reconstructed.

In 2022, the World Ethnosport Confederation unanimously supported Kazakhstan's bid to host the games.

Around 3,000 athletes from 102 countries competed in the 4th World Nomad Games from September 29 to October 2 in the city of Iznik, Turkey.

Initiated by Kyrgyzstan in 2012, the World Nomad Games aim to preserve and promote the diversity of nomadic culture traditions in Central Asia. The Games have been held three times on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan in 2014, 2016, and 2018. Subsequently, the hosting rights for these unique ethno-sporting competitions were transferred to Turkey.

The Games feature various sports disciplines, including horse racing, archery, mounted archery, falconry, different forms of wrestling, including horseback wrestling, as well as intellectual games.

The event consistently attracts teams from all Central Asian countries with Turkic roots, including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Turkey, China, and Russia.

The 5th World Nomad Games are scheduled to take place from September 8 to 15, 2024, in Astana.
