Kazakhstan proposes to explore the prospects of integrating energy systems within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), said Almasadam Satkaliev, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, during the Energy Forum of the SCO held in Astana.

"We are interested in studying the possibility of interconnecting the electrical infrastructure within the SCO, including the operation of our systems in parallel, with the active involvement of SCO member states," noted Satkaliev.

He also suggested jointly exploring advanced areas of cooperation within the SCO, such as "energy storage and energy management technologies, the implementation of elements of smart energy systems and smart grids."

The head of the Ministry of Energy emphasized that to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply and energy security within the SCO, Kazakhstan is also interested in considering investment in the modernization and reconstruction of power generation facilities. In this regard, the country is actively working on a series of reforms aimed at developing the field of electric and thermal energy in the country, Satkaliev pointed out.
