Kazakhstan proposes draft New SCO Development Strategy

At a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO Member States, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that a draft strategy for the development of the organization had been developed, Zakon.kz reports.

Tokayev noted that today the SCO has confidently embarked on the path of renewal, which opens up even greater opportunities.

"At a new stage of development, our work can no longer be based on outdated approaches. In joint work to strengthen the potential of the SCO, we should in every possible way distance ourselves from bilateral problems, and direct all efforts towards the implementation of existing agreements. The SCO should continue to be associated precisely with mutual understanding, cooperation in the name of the long-term interests of our peoples. I think the time has come to adopt a new Development Strategy of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Kazakhstan has developed a draft of this document and plans to present it within its forthcoming chairmanship," Tokayev said.

He added that the new Strategy is designed to expand the SCO agenda in the most promising areas of our cooperation.

"Further improvement of the Organization's activities will be an important step in effectively responding to new challenges and adapting the SCO to modern realities. I propose to adopt the Concept of Strengthening the SCO's Potential by the next Summit in Astana, with due regard to Kazakhstan's proposals aimed at achieving precisely this goal," the president concluded. .
At the end of his speech, the President of Kazakhstan invited the meeting participants to take part in the next summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana.

The current meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State was chaired by Indian Prime Minister Modi. The meeting was held in a mixed format off line and online. At the invitation of the presiding country, President of Turkmenistan Berdimuhamedov took part in the meeting and delivered a speech as long as President Belarus Lukashenko. .
