Kazakhstan ready to support Turkmenistan's peacekeeping initiatives

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, who arrived in Astana on an official visit, reports Kazinform.

The Kazakh president noted the steady development of Kazakh-Turkmen relations in all areas, in the spirit of friendship, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership.

Tokayev congratulated Turkmenistan on the start of the International Year of Peace and Trust, initiated by Ashgabat, which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the country's positive neutrality.

Emphasizing the importance of Turkmenistan’s peacekeeping initiatives, Tokayev expressed Kazakhstan's full readiness to continue supporting their successful implementation.

The two countries maintain a high level of economic cooperation, and mutual interests are being advanced in a constructive manner.

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov conveyed warm greetings to the President of Kazakhstan from President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

According to the diplomat, Kazakh-Turkmen cooperation is strategic in nature and has strong and long-term prospects. In this regard, the Turkmen delegation reaffirmed Ashgabat’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties with Astana across all areas of interstate relations.

The parties discussed the implementation of previous high-level agreements in the energy, transit and transport, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

Both sides recently announced that Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan intend to increase trade turnover to $1 billion.
