In two and a half years of fighting corruption, 1.07 trillion tenge, equivalent to $2.1 billion, has been returned to the people of Kazakhstan, reports the Anti-Corruption Service of Kazakhstan on its Telegram channel.

Bilateral cooperation with specific countries plays an important role, thanks to which more than $736 million in money, securities, real estate, and jewelry have been returned to the country from Austria, France, Liechtenstein, the Emirates, Turkey, Russia, and other countries.

To date, the agency has concluded 13 memoranda with anti-corruption agencies of other countries, four of which — with Azerbaijan, Hong Kong, Qatar, and Russia — were signed this year.

Kazakhstan began returning funds taken out of the country following the issuance of a decree by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in November 2022.
