Kazakhstan’s mining and metallurgy sector continues to show strong growth, said Olzhas Saparbekov, Vice Minister of Industry and Construction. According to the Government’s press service, metal ore production increased by 7.8% in 2024, while metal output rose by 6.9%. This positive trend has continued into the first half of 2025.
“The mining and metallurgy complex remains one of Kazakhstan’s key industrial sectors. Our focus is not only on boosting raw material extraction but also on developing advanced processing of base metals to expand the production of high-value-added goods,” Saparbekov noted.
In 2025, Kazakhstan plans to double copper processing, increase aluminum by 1.5 times, lead by 2.3 times, and zinc by 11%. These measures aim to strengthen domestic manufacturers and reduce reliance on imported finished products.
This expansion supports the growth of mid- and high-value manufacturing, including wire rods, cable and wiring products, batteries, window profiles, and furniture fittings.
Saparbekov emphasized that new industrial projects are already being implemented to modernize the sector. Among them are the launch of bimetallic radiator production with an annual capacity of 15 million sections, industrial batteries (240,000 units), and brass products (1,000 tons).
“These efforts will enhance our export potential, create new jobs, and strengthen Kazakhstan’s position in the global metal products market,” the vice minister added.
The mining and metallurgy industry remains a key driver of the national economy, contributing significantly to Kazakhstan’s GDP and export performance.
