The 8th session of the Kazakh-British Strategic Dialogue was held in London under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roman Vassilenko, and the UK’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Stephen Doughty, the statement of the Government of Kazakhstan says.

During the dialogue, the delegations discussed key issues of cooperation in politics, economy, investment, energy, environment, culture, education, and security, as well as the ratification process of the Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement signed between Kazakhstan and the UK in April last year. A comprehensive exchange of views also took place on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The Kazakh side welcomed the high dynamics of the political dialogue and effective contacts between the foreign ministries of both countries, which contribute to the steady deepening of multifaceted cooperation in various fields. It was noted that the results of events held in 2024, including the meeting between Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the sidelines of the COP29 climate conference in Baku, reflect a shared commitment to strengthening and expanding mutually beneficial partnership.

In this regard, within the framework of the Strategic Dialogue, special attention was given to further steps in expanding trade and investment partnerships, business relations, and maintaining fruitful cultural and humanitarian ties.

During the session, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the UK’s GLAA agency. The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the relevant institutions of both countries in protecting the labor rights of Kazakh citizens temporarily working in the UK, as well as facilitating the exchange of information, experience, and best practices in labor rights protection.

During his visit to London, Deputy Minister Vassilenko also met with the First Deputy Speaker of the UK House of Commons, Nusrat Ghani, to discuss the prospects for inter-parliamentary dialogue between the two countries. Additionally, he held a series of working meetings with representatives of the UK expert community, including the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
