Kazakhstan will give priority to the principle of the territorial integrity of all states, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said, Avesta reports.

“Kazakhstan resolutely supports the territorial integrity of all states, and also considers it necessary to strictly observe the UN Charter. This is a necessary principle that fully corresponds to the basic interests of our country. Therefore, we will give priority to this principle,” Tokayev said at the summit of the Organization of Turkic States.

On September 26, the official representative of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, Aibek Smadiyarov, said that in the issue of joining Donbass to Russia, as well as the territories of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine, the authorities of Kazakhstan proceed from the principles of the territorial integrity of countries.

In early October, Kazakhstan abstained from voting on a UN General Assembly resolution that condemned referendums on joining the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, to Russia.

As for Tokayev, he has repeatedly spoken about his adherence to the principle of the territorial integrity of states. In June this year, speaking at the 25th St. Petersburg Economic Forum, the President of Kazakhstan said that Astana considers the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics "quasi-state territories" and does not recognize them.

The summit of the Organization of Turkic States was held on November 11 in Samarkand. The association includes Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

Later, Tokayev's press secretary Ruslan Zheldibay explained that the head of state's statement was made "in connection with an urgent request to grant the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus observer status in the Organization of Turkic States." “Kazakhstan, as our President has repeatedly said, consistently adheres to the UN Charter and the key principles of international law,” Zheldibay emphasized.

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, located within the borders of the Republic of Cyprus, is recognized as an independent state only by Turkey.
