Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ – Kazakhstan Railways) has signed an agreement with PTC Holding for the construction of a container terminal, the press service of the Kazakh company reports.
The working group focused on the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route met in Baku on March 4, 2025, where the letter of intent was signed. The document outlines plans for constructing a multimodal container terminal in the Georgian port of Poti with an annual capacity exceeding 80,000 TEUs.
TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) is a standard unit used to measure port cargo turnover, container terminal capacity, and container ship load capacity. One TEU corresponds to a 20 × 8 × 8-foot container (6058 × 2438 × 2438 mm).
The new terminal will be integrated into the Trans-Caspian Route to optimize cargo handling. The total investment in the project is $30 million.
"Special attention is given to attracting investments and resources, which will enhance the **route’s capacity, optimize logistics processes, and strengthen the region’s position in the international freight market," the KTZ statement said.
KTZ representatives emphasized that this agreement is a crucial step in strengthening strategic partnerships and further integrating Kazakhstan into global transport and logistics networks.
