The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has confirmed significant trade benefits for Kazakhstan under the new Free Trade Agreement between the EAEU and Iran, EEC’s press service reports.

"For Kazakhstan, this is not just access to a new market but a strategic opportunity to strengthen its agricultural sector. The reduction of tariffs and logistical barriers is particularly relevant given the transformation of global supply chains," the EEC stated.

The agreement provides for duty-free exports of key agricultural products, including grain. Kazakhstan will benefit from Iran lifting tariffs on corn, sunflower oil, steel, and agricultural machinery. Additionally, the country will receive annual quotas of 3 million tons of wheat and 1.5 million tons of barley, exempt from duties.

The agreement, set to take effect on May 15, 2025, covers 85% of traded goods. Beyond grain, Kazakhstan will gain access to the Iranian market for fertilizers, buckwheat, and chocolate. Experts predict that this will create new incentives for the development of agriculture and food processing industries in Kazakhstan.
