Reconstruction is underway at ten checkpoints located on the customs borders of Kazakhstan with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This was announced by Eldos Saudabaev, the Director of the Department of Control at the Committee of State Revenues under the Ministry of Finance.

Once the reconstruction is completed, the checkpoint capacity will increase by 8 times, and the processing time will be reduced from 2 hours to 25 minutes.

"One of our priority tasks is to address the infrastructure issues at the checkpoints located on the customs border of the EAEU. Construction and installation works have been initiated at ten checkpoints since last year," said Eldos Saudabaev during a briefing at the Central Communications Service.

He noted that, as part of the modernization, the automobile checkpoint "Kaplanbek" on the border with Uzbekistan has been closed.

"In agreement with the Uzbek side, the automobile checkpoints "Kaplanbek" (Kazakhstan) and "Zangiota" (Uzbekistan) have been completely closed for reconstruction. The reconstruction of other checkpoints is carried out without full closure but with restrictions on the movement of vehicles and individuals," added Saudabaev.

Kazakhstani customs officers have held several meetings with their Uzbek counterparts, he continued. According to Saudabaev, the reconstruction has simplified the control processes at the border.

"At present, according to statistics, the checkpoints "Atameken" and "Kazygurt," which operate with partial restrictions, allow the passage of no fewer trucks than before the reconstruction," he noted.

After the completion of the modernization, Saudabaev believes that all the infrastructure problems of the checkpoints will be resolved, and all conditions will be created for comfortable border crossings and accelerated control procedures, assured the Committee of State Revenues.

The completion of the reconstruction is planned by the end of 2024, Saudabaev announced.
