In the World Happiness Report, published on March 20, Kazakhstan ranked 43rd out of 147 countries, making it the highest-ranked country in the CIS, Zakon.kz reports.
For comparison, Russia ranked 66th, Uzbekistan 53rd, and Kyrgyzstan 75th in the index.
The happiest country in the ranking is Finland (1st place), followed by Denmark and Iceland. Afghanistan ranked last.
The report highlights that this year, the top 20 includes two Latin American countries (Costa Rica in 6th place and Mexico in 10th place) and one Middle Eastern country (Israel in 8th place).
The World Happiness Report has been published annually since 2012. This year, it coincides with the International Day of Happiness, observed on March 20. The ranking is based on factors such as GDP per capita, expected healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life decisions, and perceptions of corruption in government and business.
