Kazakhstan, USA adopted a joint official statement on human rights

The second annual meeting of the High-Level Dialogue on Human Rights and Democratic Reform between Kazakhstan and the United States was held in Washington. Following its results, the governments of the two countries published a joint statement, Zakon.kz reports.

The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Kazakhstan - Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for International Cooperation Yerzhan Kazykhan and US Deputy Secretary of State for Civil Security, Democracy and Human Rights Uzra Zeya.

"The Republic of Kazakhstan and the United States reiterated their strong commitment to cooperate based on mutual interests and shared values to advance the rule of law, good democratic governance, and human rights. The United States reiterated its strong support for the full realization of broad political and social - economic reforms of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, based on universal human rights and democratic principles and institutions for the benefit of the people of Kazakhstan," the joint statement said.

High-level delegations discussed a number of key issues, including:

- further progress and partnerships in the implementation of political reform programs, judicial and law enforcement reform, labor rights, economic security and strengthening of women's rights, including prevention and response to gender-based violence;
- human rights, including the rights of persons with disabilities;
- return of illegally withdrawn assets: the fight against corruption, as well as combating human trafficking.

During the meeting, the delegations of the two countries considered multilateral cooperation based on mutually beneficial interaction, including through the UN Human Rights Council.

"The participants jointly decided to hold the next round of the High Level Dialogue in 2024 in Astana," the joint statement concluded.
