Expenses for maintaining automobiles have significantly increased for 72% of Kazakhstanis, Zakon.kz reports.
In 2023, the demand for automobile spare parts in Kazakhstan exceeds supply by 6 times, while for motorcycle spare parts, it surpasses supply by 8 times, according to analysts from the Olx.kz portal.
A survey conducted among Kazakhstanis showed that in 2023, the expenses of car owners for maintaining their vehicles have significantly increased compared to the previous year, with over 70% of respondents noting this fact.
Analysts also pointed out that as of August 1, there were 5,015.2 thousand registered motor vehicles in Kazakhstan, with 87.9% being passenger cars, 10% being trucks, and 2.1% being buses. The number of cars has increased by 15% in a year. Among the registered passenger cars, those with engine capacities ranging from 1500 to 2000 cubic centimeters accounted for the largest share, comprising 45%.
"The largest number of passenger cars with engine capacities ranging from 1500 to 2000 cubic centimeters is found in the Almaty region, with 223,000 units, followed by Almaty with 200.7 thousand units, Astana with 153.7 thousand units, Karaganda with 151 thousand units, and East Kazakhstan with 137.4 thousand units," the report states.
Meanwhile, according to the survey, more than 50% of the country's residents do not own a car.
Over half of car owners mentioned that they spend no more than 50,000 tenge per month on car maintenance, including fuel, which is considered the primary expense by the absolute majority (59%).
"With the rising prices of new spare parts, consumers are forced to turn to the used parts market en masse. Auto recycling has become one of the most sought-after services in the auto spare parts category," the report states.
Furthermore, the majority of Kazakhstanis noted that their expenses for maintaining a car have significantly increased (72%) compared to the previous year, while only 2% mentioned that these expenses have decreased.
