Kazakhstan's E-commerce market volume reaches $6.15 bln

The situation in Kazakhstan's e-commerce market and its development prospects were discussed at a government meeting, the press service of the Kazakh government reports.

At the meeting, Minister of Trade and Integration Arman Shakkaliev presented a report on the state of the e-commerce market in Kazakhstan.

"In 2024, the volume of Kazakhstan's e-commerce market reached 3.2 trillion tenge ($6.15 billion), accounting for 14.5% of total retail trade," the statement said.

Participants emphasized the importance of e-commerce as a driver of Kazakhstan's economic growth. The sector has created over 300,000 jobs in the country, with labor productivity increasing by more than 30%.

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov noted that foreign online platforms currently hold a significant share of the e-commerce market. He highlighted concerns regarding consumer rights protection, intellectual property, and citizens' personal data security in this sector.

Bektenov instructed officials to develop measures for digitizing the entire trade sector in Kazakhstan and enhancing consumer protection standards, setting a deadline for the end of February this year.

Additionally, the Prime Minister directed the government to explore extra state support measures for the development of e-commerce.
