Kazakhstan's gross international reserves reached almost $36 bln

Gross international reserves of Kazakhstan increased to $35.96 billion in December 2023, the National Bank of Kazakhstan announced.

In December, compared to November 2023, Kazakhstan's gross international reserves grew by $1.76 billion, or 5.14%, reaching $35.96 billion, the report stated.

Currency assets increased by 15.3% in December 2023, reaching $16.4 billion. Gold assets decreased by 2%, amounting to $19.5 billion, while net international reserves increased by 5%, reaching $33.9 billion.

In January, the National Bank plans to sell up to $1.1 billion from the National Fund of Kazakhstan.

Currency purchases to maintain the currency share of pension assets of the State Accumulation Fund in January 2024 are expected to be in the range of $100 to $200 million. Currency purchases to increase the currency share of assets of the National Welfare Fund are expected to be up to $30 million, according to the press service of the National Bank of Kazakhstan. Earlier reports indicated that the National Fund of Kazakhstan incurred record losses at the end of 2022.
