A criminal case against activists and politicians accused of "an attempt to seize power by force" in connection with the decision on the division of the Kempir-Abad reservoir in Kyrgyzstan was classified, lawyer Gulyana Ubaliyeva said, 24.kg reports.

The case file has been classified as secret, and the investigators informed the defenders about it yesterday, Ubalieva said.

“In this case, the defense will not be given copies of the case materials. They said that the whole criminal case was classified. But a copy of the decision to classify the case has not yet been issued to lawyers. They only spoke orally. They must issue documents about this,” the lawyer said.

On October 22, 2022, a committee to support the Kempir-Abad reservoir was created in the south of Kyrgyzstan. It included activists, politicians and MPs. On the same day, in an interview with the Kabar agency, President Sadyr Japarov said: the authorities have information about who is behind the rallies and marches in Kempir-Abad.

On October 23, mass arrests began. The authorities sent 27 people to jail on charges of preparing for riots. Of these, three are under house arrest, 24 people are in SIZO-1. Among them are several elderly women.
