During a meeting between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan, Begenc Durdyev, and the President of Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea, Yoo Ji Beom, important agreements were reached in the field of education. The negotiations, which took place on February 10, will create new opportunities for Turkmen students to receive a prestigious education, according to the social media page of Turkmenistan’s diplomatic mission, reports Turkmenportal.com.
The university president confirmed readiness to offer master's program seats in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields for graduates of Turkmen universities who have demonstrated high academic performance in applied sciences. Special emphasis will be placed on cooperation with Oguzhan Turkmen Engineering and Technology University and the Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management.
As part of the expansion of academic cooperation, discussions were held on increasing quotas for Turkmen students and expanding the scholarship program. This decision marks a significant step in strengthening educational ties between the two countries.
A notable initiative was the Turkmen ambassador’s proposal to introduce Turkmen language courses at Sungkyunkwan University, which would promote cultural exchange and enhance language competencies among Korean students.
During the meeting, plans were also discussed for international events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality, as well as the initiative to declare 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust” in accordance with the UN General Assembly Resolution.
It is worth noting that cooperation between Turkmenistan and Sungkyunkwan University has a strong foundation: in 2015, the university awarded the President of Turkmenistan an honorary doctorate.
