Damage from mudflows in Kyrgyzstan from April 20 to July 1 amounted to over 170 million som, or $2 million. This information was disclosed on July 2 during a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Akylbek Japarov, on mitigating the consequences of the emergency situation in the Nookat district of Osh region, as reported by the Kyrgyz government press service.
During the meeting, the Minister of Emergency Situations, Boobek Ajikeev, reported that 236 mudflow incidents were registered during this period. According to the government, several kilometers of roads and 9 bridges were damaged as a result of mudflows, with one bridge completely destroyed.
As a result of mudflows in the Nookat and Kara-Kuldzha districts of Osh region, more than 14 people lost their lives. On June 28, in the Nookat district, a 48-year-old woman from the village of Borbash in Osh region, along with her three sons aged 19, 16, and 11, and her two-year-old grandson, tragically perished. Additionally, a 15-year-old girl and two children who had come to visit relatives from Kazakhstan also lost their lives.
On June 30, in the Kara-Kuldzha district, four members of one family lost their lives. According to the Kyrgyz Republic's Ministry of Emergency Situations, among the deceased were a 36-year-old man, his 34-year-old wife, and their children aged 12 and 4 years old. Only their 18-year-old daughter survived.
