Kyrgyz people deeply concerned about climate change

About 59% of Kyrgyz citizens prioritize environmental protection over economic growth. This was revealed by a survey conducted by the World Bank as part of the "Life in Transition Survey - LiTS" project. The presentation of the results, titled "Climate Change Perspectives: Beliefs, Challenges, and Recommendations," took place in Bishkek, 24.kg reports.

According to the survey, about 78% of respondents consider climate change a real problem. Furthermore, 62% believe that climate change is directly caused by human activities. 79% of respondents in Kyrgyzstan also believe that climate change will affect them, and 89% believe it will affect their children's lives.

"In Kyrgyzstan, about 59% of respondents prioritize environmental protection over economic growth. More than half of the respondents support policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, despite their concern about climate change, they do not consider it a priority for investment compared to other national issues such as healthcare, education, and job creation," said World Bank global practice economist for poverty and equality, Metin Nebiler.
