Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov held talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his state visit to Pakistan, 24.kg reports. The meeting took place in both narrow and expanded formats.

The two sides discussed prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in political, economic, and infrastructure spheres, as well as issues related to energy, transport, and cultural-humanitarian ties.

Prime Minister Sharif welcomed the Kyrgyz leader and noted that the visit — the first in the past two decades — carries historical significance and opens a new chapter in relations between the two countries. He praised Kyrgyzstan’s recent economic achievements and emphasized that, with effective implementation of joint projects, bilateral trade could reach $200 million in the coming years.

Sadyr Japarov expressed readiness to intensify political dialogue and expand the exchange of delegations. He also described Pakistan as a brotherly nation and highlighted the importance of the countries’ historical and cultural ties.

During the meeting, the sides discussed development of transport infrastructure, including the advancement of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project, which they believe will significantly strengthen the region’s transit potential. They also reviewed opportunities to enhance cooperation in using Pakistan’s ports of Karachi and Gwadar to provide Kyrgyzstan access to global markets.
