On July 8, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov arrived in Tajikistan on an official visit. The highlight of the visit was not a formal ceremony, but a private one-on-one meeting and closed-door talks with President Emomali Rahmon - held without press or extended delegations. The tete-a-tete format underscored the sensitivity and strategic significance of the discussions, which addressed not only bilateral concerns but also broader regional interests, Eurasiatoday.ru reports.

According to official statements, the two presidents discussed a wide range of topics - from coordination in international forums to everyday issues affecting residents of border regions. Special attention was reportedly given to matters of border demarcation, security, and sustainable development.

President Rahmon noted that relations between Dushanbe and Bishkek have entered a phase of “steady progress.” He called the completion of a key stage in the border delimitation process a historic milestone and confirmed that demarcation efforts are continuing as planned - a development that opens new possibilities for lasting peace in southern Central Asia.

Economic cooperation is also showing signs of strong growth: bilateral trade has increased 15-fold over the past 12 months. Humanitarian exchanges and security dialogue are likewise expanding.

President Japarov emphasized that the Kyrgyz-Tajik border should no longer be a source of tension, but rather a symbol of good-neighborliness and joint development. He expressed confidence that the remaining demarcation work would be completed “in a spirit of mutual respect and according to agreed timelines.”

“We are ready for a substantive dialogue to define the key directions of our partnership. I am confident that this visit will serve as a catalyst for new joint initiatives and projects,” Japarov stated.

Following the private meeting, the two leaders continued discussions in an expanded format. The agenda included the signing of bilateral agreements, a joint statement, and participation in an economic forum.

Experts note that the frank and pragmatic dialogue between Dushanbe and Bishkek could serve as a model for resolving border disputes and strengthening regional cohesion in Central Asia - a goal that carries particular weight in today’s volatile global environment.
