President Sadyr Japarov explained during a parliamentary session why he dismissed former Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov from his position.

According to Japarov, the decision was made to avoid a conflict of interest in the ongoing criminal case involving the leadership and employees of the State Tax Service, 24.kg reports.

"We were deeply disappointed by the negative developments in the tax system. Fraud related to excise stamps has come to light. This sector was under the supervision of Akylbek Usenbekovich, and illegal actions could have been prevented. I had to remove him from office due to the criminal investigation concerning the leadership of the Tax Service to eliminate any conflict of interest," said Sadyr Japarov.

Akylbek Japarov stepped down as Prime Minister on December 16 after serving for three years and two months.

On December 3, 2024, mass arrests of tax officials from all four district offices in Bishkek took place. Officers from the State Committee for National Security (SCNS), along with "Alpha" special forces, conducted searches, after which four department heads and about 30 rank-and-file employees were brought in for questioning. The SCNS later disclosed the reasons for the searches and provided the initials of those detained.

In his address to Parliament, SCNS head Kamchybek Tashiev stated that tax officials had created a corruption scheme linked to the ETTN system, which caused a loss of 3.2 billion soms to the state budget. He also noted the possibility of detaining senior leaders of the Tax Service.

During today’s parliamentary session, Adylbek Kasymaliev, previously the First Deputy Prime Minister, was elected as the new Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan. Daniyar Amangeldiev, former Minister of Economy and Commerce, was appointed as the new First Deputy Prime Minister. Bakytbek Sydykov was named the new Minister of Economy and Commerce.
