Kyrgyzstan and Iran discussed issues of strengthening relations

Kyrgyzstan's President Sadyr Japarov and Iran's President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi discussed priority areas of bilateral cooperation in politics, trade and economics, culture, and other spheres of interaction in New York, the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The President of Iran emphasized that there are good opportunities and high potential for taking bilateral relations to a new level. He noted the still low level of trade turnover between Iran and Kyrgyzstan and proposed making every effort to increase it. In this context, he highlighted the importance of activating the work of the bilateral Joint Intergovernmental Commission.

President Japarov expressed readiness to continue the ongoing political dialogue and cooperation at all levels and further strengthen Kyrgyz-Iranian cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Japarov supported President Raisi's initiative to deepen trade and economic cooperation between the two countries and attached great importance to investment cooperation.

He stressed the need to address logistical issues, emphasizing the importance of the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway project, which would provide new opportunities in trade and economic relations.

Furthermore, President Japarov highlighted the significant role of the Kyrgyz-Iranian Joint Intergovernmental Commission's activities and proposed holding the Commission's next meeting in Bishkek before the end of this year.

Japarov congratulated President Raisi on obtaining full membership status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and expressed satisfaction with Iran's active cooperation with all SCO member states.

Before this meeting, President Japarov had a separate meeting with the President of Finland, Sauli Vainamo Niinistö, to discuss the prospects of expanding bilateral cooperation. Additionally, Japarov participated in the UN Summit for Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC), where he discussed the UN Sustainable Development Goals as the basis of the country's state policy.

President Japarov is in New York to participate in the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. He will also join the first meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden in the C5+1 format. Central Asian leaders are already in New York and are holding a series of bilateral meetings with heads of other states and international organizations.
