Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan move relations forward

The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, held talks with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in Astana in a narrow format, the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The leaders of the two countries discussed priority areas for deepening Kyrgyz-Kazakh cooperation in trade and economic, water-energy, transport-border, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

The Kazakh leader expressed gratitude to Sadyr Japarov and the people of Kyrgyzstan for the fraternal humanitarian assistance provided in connection with the massive floods in several regions of the country.

He also noted that during the current visit, the parties are signing a historic Treaty on the deepening and expansion of allied relations, which will give a new impetus to the development of Kazakh-Kyrgyz relations.

The President of Kazakhstan noted the positive dynamics of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

Last year, mutual trade turnover reached $1.5 billion, demonstrating a 26% growth. At the same time, Tokayev emphasized the need to increase this figure to $2 billion.

For his part, the President of Kyrgyzstan expressed gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality, noting that Kazakhstan is a close neighbor and fraternal state, having a special priority in the foreign policy of the Kyrgyz Republic.

He particularly emphasized that the nature of bilateral relations between the countries is predetermined by the commonality of the historical destiny of the two peoples, centuries-old friendship, and brotherhood.

Japarov also stated that Kazakhstan is one of the main trading partners of Kyrgyzstan, and trade and economic cooperation is dynamically developing in all areas of mutual interest. Joint investment projects in the field of solar energy, metallurgy, and logistics are being implemented, which will practically benefit the two fraternal peoples in the near future.

In conclusion, the sides reaffirmed their commitment to the development of comprehensive cooperation in the spirit of allied relations and strategic partnership.

Earlier, the President of Kyrgyzstan participated in the meeting of the High Interstate Council of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan awarded his Kyrgyz counterpart Sadyr Japarov the Order of "Dostyk" I degree.

The high state award to the President of Kyrgyzstan was presented "for a significant contribution to the strengthening and development of bilateral relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic."

The official visit of Japarov took place on April 18-19, 2024.
